When decorating a small apartment, some are convinced that dark colours should not be considered, others are adamant that prints and patterns will not work when decorating such places. Yet others are of the opinion that big pieces of furniture should be avoided in small spaces entirely.
There are so many misconceptions and “rules” surrounding interior design for small spaces that we set out to seek the truth to set the record straight once and for all. This next 2-bedroom apartment at 6th Avenue is a reminder that it's possible to live large in a small apartment!
Entrance
With small apartments, it's very easy to give away the entire view of the house from the entrance. Here, a simple slim design pillar with see-through panels divides the place while maintaining the sense of light and space.
Dining Room
In addition to increasing the effect of spaciousness, the black mirror also adds a touch of sophistication while at the same time acting as a cabinet for storage purposes to further maximise the available space. Another clever space-saving idea is the dining table which is mounted to the wall to hold up one end of the table and a leg on the other end.
Living Room
Here, a TV feature wall is erected close to the wall to conceal the wires running to the entertainment unit in the TV console. The TV console employs a one-sided mirror so that the entertainment unit can be used even with the panels closed. The special twin cove light in the ceiling brings additional light to the living room by incorporating false ceiling light to enhance the simplicity of the interior design.
Master Bedroom
Soothing neutral colours like beige, white and brown are used to emote a calming feeling. The textured effect wall with indirect lighting makes the bedhead stand out in a subtle way. The gold trimmings and black gloss on the bedhead give the room a touch of grandeur.
Daughter's Bedroom
As this is the bedroom to a growing 8-year-old girl, the designers decided to keep it fun yet functionable so that it can be used for the next 5 to 10 years. The young lady requested for a platform, the perfect design feature to double up as storage space. Her bay window has a removable cushion so that she can sit and read with the natural lighting by the window.
