Sits on the quaint neighborhood of Martaban Road is our beautifully refurbished pre-war house. Originally built in the 1940’s, it was used as a dormitory housing the orderlies working in the nearby Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The charming transformation comes about after the current owner Mr. and Mrs Steven Bealing, recognized its potential and hidden beauty weathered by age, and bought over the asset. Together with their architects from the Ong and Ong Architects, the formal ingeniously restore the house to its formal glory, cleverly incorporating the comforts of modern day living whilst retaining the house unique architectural aesthetics.
To create the sense of space and light, the walls on the first level separating the living area from the dinning was torn down. This promotes fluidity, allowing the seamless flow of space and activities from one area into the next. The dinning area adjoined to the kitchen opens to a lush quite courtyard where the owners have their quite afternoon tea or informal meals.
On the second and third level, full length louvered windows nominate the entire look. The windows are used to screen out prying eyes from the bathrooms area, whilst allowing the living space to remain open and ventilated. Natural materials and nude colors are chosen to create a relax and tranquil resort like atmosphere. The original floorboards and an old spiral stairway is also retained and restored to compliment the overall architectural character flow of the house.
