Hey, anyone has any idea what gift to buy for mother in her 61 years of age. She is modern, pretty, playful, someone who likes to travel and eat good food. She is also into playing games and could sit and play her games till morning, very house proud and fully retired, would say someone who really knows how to enjoy her retirement.

Any tips what to get for her?

is she a grandparent now? if she enjoy games, maybe can consider buying her a board game where she can enjoy quality time with her grand children.

mm... sounds like she's a very fashionable lady who knows how to enjoy life! Well, I picture she's elegant yet sociable at same time. Why not bring her to a nice posh restaurant to celebrate. as for gift, you mentioned play game till morning, is it majong? In that case, may be you can buy a fancy special collector's majong set for her - like an ivory one!

If she's house proud, how about chinaware / silverware? Those bone china tea set? Or go Tiffany & Co to scout?

Or may be jewelry pieces, watch?

give her a Make Over voucher so she can look pretty and have those cover shots to remember her fun time at the studio.

I think for someone her age, she might look forward to having the entire family, the whole clan gather together for a family meal. with everyone busy working, such chances to gather together are far and few between.

why not get everyone together to have a dinner in a chinese restaurant of her choice.

it would be great to catch up on each other lives and to celebrate her birthday.

:) thanks, so many great ideas.

No she does not have grandchildren. So baord games out.

I think the spa package is a fantastic idea, Tiffany - that is good too. Make over package - excellent idea.

Yup, I shall do that go to Tiffany and see what I can get for her. Than decide on whether it shall be spa or makeover. Let me think hard on this one.

talking about holiday... which resort is nice, not too expensive and most important is safe for a woman to go alone?

it really depends how you see as "not too expensive". To me, I think Bintan Resorts are reasonable in rates (on average class - $75-$220 per room per nite), up to travellers' standard and safe as they often have hotel transfer and the resort area have their own security petrol.

not wise for woman to go holiday on their own- it is definitely a necessity to get a companion to go with.

Else maybe a nice cruise trip will be nice.

wow thanks for all the advices and suggestions.

i have been to bintan resort, don't find that resort good enough.

as for travelling alone, i have travelled alone for a few destinations (not fully alone but take plane myself, day time walk on my own, stay alone in the hotel). it's quite boring lar but safe i think ok lar. places i have been alone are hong kong, penang and guangzhou. so far ok except for guangzhou a bit dangerous lar.

that's why i thought if i go a slightly premium resort, like what gloriajeans wrote got hotel transfer, hotel security. cruise is nice if it's in along the carribean but those star cruies, boring....

hmm... do you know there's a international cruise - Royal Carribean coming to Asia. They've got a round asia (Sin-M'sia-Phuket-Sin) package - Singapore as the 1st port of call - USD $399.

Sounds interesting. They've got a simulated surf area (surfing onboard!) with waves upto 40m. Can do rockclimbing... and a gym with classes. They've also got 18 holes miniture golf course. Spa, Disco, Ice-skating ring...etc of coz also the usual casino
