heheheh, precious, i can understand how you but with your past experiences, i'm sure you will have a beautiful home.

when i first got my new home (first-time home owner), i was so up tight about everything. choosing the right colours, fabric, furniture etc was really a headache. luckily my hubby was easy going, he let me decide everything. we spent like very weekend shopping for furniture, applicances etc for almost half a year. practically no life. i guess it's like that for all new home owners. maybe my next house will be better.

Thanks Admin. Shall take note.

There are so many stuffs to share :P
Maybe share the one that make me most thrilled :D
Lighting.

As I'm rather determined to get the trendy chandelier for my dining area. I'm prepared to pay abt $700 for one. What I hv learned, there r various types of chandelier: china-made (plastic like), egypt crystal & swasroki crystal (common types). With my budget, I should b able to get those egyptian type, ranging from $600-900. Of course, I can only afford the small size one :P

After many runs of shops along Balestier road, my passion is totally bashed. Those i can afford, nt nice. Nice one cannot afford :(
Nevertheless, I decided to visit a shop in Geylang, recommended by a fren,
A Lighting.

Immediately caught my eyes was a $700+ chandelier I saw earlier in Balestier rd. Egyptian, clear black, full of crystals, middle sized
And the price mentioned by the owner made me skipped abit!
S$380 !!!!!!!!!
It was of the same materials & design, I swear.
Wahliaoeh... I must buy, I tot.
Yet I kept cool and asked for more disc. (faintz)
in the end, confirmed another crystal light (nt chandelier) and get bulk purchase price $300 :P That same pce I saw was S$500++
Total spend: S$680. within budget but got 2 crystal lights
YEAH!!:D

I'm going there again for my other lightings (PLC & bedrm lights)
Didn't get them tt time as I had not done my research on them.
could nt b sure they hv the cheapest :P

Sound like me the bargain queen hor
Paisay...

share next time:cool:

Hey precious...what's an egyptian chandelier? Is it something like this? I've always fancy this sort!

hey precious...nothing wrong to bargain la. If not, you would hv spent $700 liao. Must share my own experience on shopping for lighting - There are many shops along Jalan Besar, Balestier, Geylang. I say - wear a gd walking shoes and browse thru as many as you can - coz the price differ like crazy! Dun be so drawn to nice interior shops - they will eat you up with the prices. some humbly appearance ones actually carry some gd stock if you look closely. Try going to the wholesalers - they are able to give you bigger cut then the retailers.

But really, did you get yourself all chandeliers and crystal lightings? Like evel said - I hope you got a maid. the maintenance is not easy. I once bought a clear crystal one... tell you... it's really hellish! Just every month my wife would make me take it down to clean strand by strand! Gosh! If you dun then it lost the shine. I said practicality is for the long term.

Also if you live near the sea (like me - near Marine Parade), DON'T get metal frame stuff or at least it's not the main part of the piece. Coz the salt in the air will tarnish the metal faster than usual. Sob... hiaz...

poor onion.....,

cleaning the chandelier piece by piece is like peeling onion pieces by pieces.... pain hor.... hehehhehehhe.... peel until finish, shine shine lor, like crystal shine... hahahhahaha...

no offence hor onion, me just being naughty..

Just to update, my 3+2 aircon r up liao. Hubby said they hv done a good job. (my hubby oso do aircon last time :P)

My package from All Best cost:
carrier system 2 - S$1299
carrier system 3 - S$1599
Total: S$2898.00 (incl. unlimited run of piping)

We never opt for the 'energy-saving' type due to limited budget:p

We learned tt this coy got few complaint on its installation & hidden costs.
So far, we r ok... fingers-crossed.

Now left to wait for false ceiling to be UP next time, done painting then fix up e blowers.

why do you need a system 2 + system 3? does that means you have 5 aircon units?

i'm thinking of changing my aircons (2 units only) cos it's very old liao but always dip water and very noisy. what's the market rate for enengy saving now?

system 3 for bedrooms,system 2 for living room/dining area
Now market rate, for inverter system 2 of a more 'famous' brand cost abt S$2000+.

Personally I feel if the existing unit is old, it is more economic to change to a new one. Save energy since new one is more efficient. save $$ when less energy used on PUB bill & servicing cost.:p JMHO :)

looking at the chandelier picture posted, i recall when i was younger in my early 20s' - i hated the look - i think they look really ugly.

Not sure has it got to do with age.... as i grew older, i find myself inclining to like the design of the chandelier and think they are really elegant looking and bring a touch of class to the room.:D

I think to have chandelier light the ceiling must be high enough - well, really excited to see how your chandelier turn up in your new flat.

So exciting!

Air con the one you got sounds like a good bargain too.

Aiyo, precious you are so smart to be looking around more - see the amount of money your saved from the purchase of the lightings.

I must really learn from you :)

me not smart lah. Just tight on pockets that's why:D

me just went to A Lighting to get the balance items: PLC, bedrm lights etc.
The seller, Alex is really nice lor. he actually stop me from buying expensive, hard-to-maintain lights. :P
Really save alot. E.g. 18w+18w PLC Daylight is S$26 each, compared to S$30-38 I've checked. bulb is of osram brand.

Lastly, me cannot resist and bought a mini crystal light for my entrance :P at $100. really a steal as I have seen it at $198. So me total spent S$780 for 3 crytals lighting, an amt that should only get me ONE crystal chandelier.

me almost laugh in my sleep

Paisay hor, me sound like a cheapo buyer:cool:

Hey dont worry abt the light. personally i think it's better to have more than little. If you have more, you can always adjust the level by switching on lesser or more light. but if you've lesser...than you can't possibly make it any brighter later.

Ever thought of using warmer light (meaning more yellowish)? Nowadays market have many kind of light tube that cater to different tone... warmer lighter give a softer/cozy effect while white light is brighter but colder.

I say go for a coffee table so that the room will look less empty but make it a low one so that the room will still feel spacious. Place a swee carpet underneath to complete the warm home feel :D

I was going to say a coffee table is missing - you ask the question if you should get one.

It is a must have. Imagine having visitors to your house, how are you going to serve them drinks if you do not have one. Guest cannot be holding the glasses or cups all the time on their hand.

Humm .. a low table is good. I agree with Ah boy it will creat the spacious feel.

A plain light colour rug will make the place more cosy.

Hi Evel

Already planned to do up Thomas room & Kitty room. So bought them way b4 getting the flat. Those living decals are from China website. Actually they are quite nice. it is my poor workmanship that killed it :P

Some people assume that decorating needs to incorporate only the most expensive looks but some of my friends’ homes actually look lived-in – they have achieved that ‘tatty’ look where everything looks almost chaos but, in fact, as one of my friends admitted, it took quite a bit of ingenuity to achieve the look without going too far. I can see her point – she has gone for stripped down doors which she bought from a junkyard, stripped bare wood shelves inset into her alcoves and the walls are all finished in an off-white Artex-type finish to give them the rustic look. Thankfully, she left the ceilings alone and did not go for the mock-antique beams. She has an old rocking chair which she bought from an antique shop and children’s toys on view on the shelves [these are for accent only]. She admitted to me that the toys are simply there as interior décor focal points and that all the children’s toys are actually put away in their own rooms upstairs.
