mm... wallpaper... my mom always said it'll peel off shortly becoz of the humidity in S'pore. but i believe that's old wives' tales now. surely the pdt hv improved in quality. and the use of air-con, hv made it even easier to maintain. beside wallpaper... even thot of wall decalshttp://www.thecoolhunter.net/images/stories/lifestyle/blik.jpg? quite interesting too... especially for the arty pp out there! you can even play with yr wall (haha)... look at this innovative wallpaper with stick-ons elements to be placed all over the wall - http://www.thecoolhunter.net/images/stories/lifestyle/wallpaper.jpg

Ladies, actually my sister put up the wallpaper in her new place few weeks ago.

If I am not wrong, you just need to use damp cloth to wipe off any dirt or dust. Installation usually take about 1 day, depends on how big your place is and how much to be done. Simple, straight forward job only requires 1 day. Give it a few hours to dry and it will be fine.

Price wise, depends on how big an area you want to put up. Some charge by per sqm and some by per roll. 1 roll start from about $80 (below $100), if I remember correctly. Not inclusive of installation though. The wallpaper supplier usually provide installation as well at a cost. So manpower calculation, as usual, already have a base cost per trip, if spread over more walls, then cost per unit lower.

I went to goodrich with my sister at Tanah Merah. You will be amazed by the huge selections! Sales people are helpful and friendly. Better for you to check it out directly!

hope this is helpful :D :D

hi buddy,

not expert here but just sharing what little I know

Walls easily take up a HUGE part of the whole house. The right or wrong color or lousy paint job will make or break the whole look you want to achieve.

One fuss free way is to engage a professional painting service company. One example is Nippon paint, they can give professional paint and color advice at the same time, site visit to assess wall conditions. If I am not wrong, you can get more info from home-fix or-self fix.

If you prefer more hands on, it's important to first know what look you would like to achieve, then choose the color that will complement your furniture. As for the paint type, different brands offers very differing product types with different attributes. There are some that has anti-mould formulation, easy cleaning (for families with pets & kids). There is also some that is all-in-one......

Best that you do some reading up on website, get some primary knowledge, understand what you want then decide whether you want to engaged a third party to do it or do it yourself.

good luck !

Hi hibuddy00,

Check out Nippon Paint website. They have a section on Home / DIY. It will introduce you the types of paints suitable for interior, exterior wall etc. Very user friendly. I got the 3-in-1 medi-fresh anti-bacterial paints for my interior walls. It's good as it has a special anti-bacterial formula that helps inhibit bacteraisl growth, thus lowering the risk of flu, diarrhoea and other ailments in housholds.

cookies.....

my pleasure hobuddy, i can understand the agony of home renovation. I have been through that. to be safe on the colours, my suggestion is to choose light or pastel colouors, it will not go wrong with any furniture.

Have fun doing up your house.

hi buddy,

no worries. good that part of your problem is solved. So now its the color part huh ....

I agree with cookies. Whites is always safe and good! If you have not decided on your furniture or the color theme of your furnishing, and is in a rush to paint the hse, then I suggest you take offwhite. Personally, I find white is too stark. Offwhite tend to go better with alot more colors. However, if you are on the more adventurous, then take other stronger colors, then you must be careful in matching your furniture, curtains, bedsheets....

however at the end of day, there is no right or wrong on the color choice ... it's your home so do whatever you like ! You have every right ! haha :D

actually painting is quite easy just go thru a layer of coat first then apply the piant. like that you ensure that the coat is smooth. even my mom can do it. she recently painted the whole house herself. she is 55 years old. i really admire her stamina. she said everyday paint abit lor. if she can you can too. and most important is she really does a good job. well done mom...

i gal lar, but if cookies' mom at 55 years old can paint why can't i? i'm only in my late 20's. anyway i got some paints over the weekend, and started doing a small portion of my living room. it's kind of fun especially if you do it with your partner. but make sure don't argue with him cos sometimes a task like this can cause dispute. we almost have an heated arguement over the colours but we both reason it out and come to a conclusion of a nice baby blue for the living room.

enjoy.... ;)

am I too late to be in the discussion? Just to share my cents worth...

Besides color of paints, personally, I thought the type of paint used is also critical. You would really have to consider between water-based and oil-based paints, especially when its a DIY paint job.

Water-based paints (also often referred to as latex paints) is less prone to fading or yellowing than oil-based paint. It is dry to touch in minutes and ready for a second coat in about four hours. Oil-based paints are dry to the touch in six to eight hours but need twenty-four hours before re-coating. The longer the drying time the greater the chance of insects and dust penetrating the wet surface. That would be a really obvious disadvantage for oil based paint.

Water-based paint is also easier to apply as it flows off of the brush or roller. Oil-based paint is sticky and must be stretched out and worked into the surface.

The advantage of using oil-based paint over water-based is that oil-based paint requires less surface preparation and adheres to dirtier, shinier, or more weathered surfaces than water-based paint. It is more resistant to abrasion.

Hope this is helpful....

wow so much knowledge about paint. i'm not sure the paint i bought was it water based or oil based. I bought the Nippon Paint’s 3-in-1 Medi-Fresh Anti-Bacterial paint. Its special anti-bacteria formula helps inhibit bacteria growth, thus lowering the risk of flu, diarrhoea and other ailments in households.
i think this will helps in the long drying period that will cause inserts and dust of oil base.
