Biography:

Greetings, I am Abigail; I work as an urban planner in an urban development company. Urban planners identify community needs and develop short and long-term plans to create, maintain and revitalise communities and neighbourhoods. For example, they may review plans for proposed facilities, such as schools, to ensure that those facilities meet the needs of a changing population. As the community grows and changes, planners help to address economic, social and environmental issues, such as planning new parks, accommodating the homeless and making the area more attractive to businesses.

Some planners work on broad social plans, while others focus on specific issues. Ultimately, all planners promote the best use of land and community resources for residential, commercial and recreational purposes.

When initiating a project, planners work with government officials, community members and other groups to identify community problems and objectives. Through research, data analysis and collaboration with stakeholders, planners develop strategies to solve problems and achieve objectives. They can also help communities to implement their plans, monitor projects and organize the work of the groups involved. Projects can include both policy recommendations for specific initiatives and long-term, broad-based planning.
